Abstract
One of dental health problem which occur oftenly is malocclusion. Malocclusion may cause problems in three main condition, one of them is aesthetical matter and one which giving influence is facial symmetry. The purpose of this study is finding the association between dental malocclusion and facial assymmetry. This is an analytic obervational with a cross sectional design study which was done at 73 students of Dentistry Study Program Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya University. Samples are divided into three groups of experiments based on Angle malocclusion classification, group 1 is samples of Angle malocclusion class I, group 2 is samples of Angle malocclusion class II, and group 3 is samples of Angle malocclusion class III. Frontal photometry of each sample was taken then processed using Autodesk autocad verse 2007 Software to define facial asymmetry. The result has been analized using Chi-square test. Asymmetrical face was founded in 36,99% of samples within group 1, 20,55% of samples within group 2, and 15,07% of samples within group 3. Chi-square test show that there is a significant association between variables ( P = 0.000). There is a significant association between dental malocclusion and facial asymmetry.
