Abstract
Background: Tooth extraction is the act of removing a tooth that cannot be treated from the alveolar bone socket, after extraction the socket will undergo a wound healing process. Chicken eggshell is a natural ingredient that has the potential to be an alternative wound treatment. The calcium and protein content in chicken eggshells can accelerate wound healing. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of eggshell extract of laying hens (Gallus domesticus) on the number of osteoblast cells in the wound socket after tooth extraction of Wistar rats. Methods: The research design was post-test only control group design. A total of 24 male wistar rats were divided into 6 groups. After the mandibular incisor teeth were extracted, the socket in group 1 was given 15% ointment and group 3 was given 20% ointment for 14 days. Group 2 was given 15% ointment and group 4 was given 20% ointment for 21 days. Groups 5 and 6 were given distilled water twice a day for 14 and 21 days. The 14-day group was euthanized on day 15, while the 21-day group was euthanized on day 22 and then histology preparations were made. The number of osteoblasts was counted using Olympus software and analyzed using Kruskall Wallis test and Mann Whitney Post Hoc test. Results: The highest average number of osteoblasts was 15% chicken eggshell extract for 14 days. Conclusion: Giving 15% chicken eggshell extract can increase the number of osteoblast cells in wound healing after tooth extraction of Wistar rats.
