Abstract
The silver shark-barb (Labiobarbus leptocheilus, Valenciennes 1842) is a native of the freshwater fish fauna of South Sumatra. This species is economically valuable as a food and ornamental fish, hence its potential for cultivation. The information on the biological aspects of this species is very limited. The objectives of this study were to analyze the morphometric characteristics and length-weight relationship of L. leptocheilus. The sampling was done in the Kelekar River of Ogan Ilir Regency, Indonesia, from October to December 2022 (rainy season). The fish were collected using traditional fishing gear (hook and line, barrier trap, gill net, and bamboo trap). A total of 61 L. leptocheilus were collected from three stations. The results showed that the total length of L. leptocheilus was 10.30–14.70 cm, the standard length was 8.80–11.40 cm, and the body weight was 10.13–32.82 g. The meristic characters of L. leptocheilus were D. 26–28, P. 14–16, V. 9–10, A. 8, and C. 24-26. The length-weight relationship was W = 0.0067L3.1507 (R2 = 0.949). The growth pattern of L. leptocheilus was positive allometric. The results of this study serve as a reference for future management of this species.
