Abstract
Sugar palm (Arenga pinnata Wurmb Merr.) is a tropical plant from the Arecaceae tribe. This plant has a high economic value because all parts of the sugar palm can be utilized. There are various factors that support the growth of sugar palm, such as seed quality, soil type, agroclimatology, and also the insects that are associated with sugar palm. These insects include pollinators, natural enemies, decomposers, and pests (phytophages). The purpose of this research is to find out what insects are associated with the vegetation around sugar palm and their insect roles, and to determine the level of diversity of insect species associated with sugar palm vegetation in Ulak Segulung Village. This research method was conducted using the purposive sampling method. The research was conducted at the Wak Uban sugar palm plantation in Ogan Ilir Regency. Sampling insects using the pitfall trap, yellow sticky trap, light trap, and sweep net method. The results of this study found 27 species of insects, consisting of 9 orders of species, namely the order Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, Odonata, Hemiptera, Orthoptera, Isoptera, Collembola, and Dermaptera. The yellow sticky trap is the trap that found the most insects. The highest number of role insect populations were natural enemy insects, and the highest number of insect order populations were in the order Hymenoptera. Odontomachus sp. had the highest number of insect species in Wak Uban palm vegetation. The second-highest number of insect species is Opius sp., and the thirdhighest number of insect species is Colembola. The results of the diversity index of insect species show medium diversity. Meanwhile, the evenness index value of insect species is low, and the results of the dominance index value show that there are no dominant insect species in the Ulak Segulung Village area. The results on the NCSS graph show that there are significantly different differences between the number of insects against insect traps and the number of insects in the week of observation. Meanwhile, the results on the NCSS graph of plant diameter against the number of insects are not significantly different.
