Abstract

Background: Elderly is an individual who has reached the final stage of their life, namely 60 years old and above. In most cases, elderly will encounter decrease in functional capacity in their life, which causes a degradation in the level of well-being of the elderly, both physically and mentally. Cognitive function is an important thing to pay attention to because it is a common problem and ranks second among health problems in the elderly. Objective: Knowing the cognitive function profile of the elderly in Palembang Nursing Homes. Methods: This research was conducted by using descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional approach to determine cognitive function profile of the elderly in Palembang Nursing Homes. The data used was primary data. The research sample was elderly people in all Palembang Nursing Homes. Results: Based on the research, the results obtained are that the highest percentage of elderly people with cognitive impairment in each category, namely those in the age group > 90 years (100%), women (91.38%), college graduated (100 %), never worked (100%), had a history of stroke (92.86%), did not remember or did not know about history of cognitive impairment in their family (93.33%), lived at Nursing Home A (100%) and Nursing Home D (100%), and the delayed recall aspect is the cognitive aspect that experiences the most disruption (96.2%). Conclusion: Age, gender, educational history, employment history, history of illness, history of impaired cognitive function in family, and the nursing home where the elderly is cared for are the factors that can influence the cognitive function of the elderly.
