Abstract

Background: Physical fitness must be fulfilled because Hajj includes physical worship and is mandatory in a state of ability (istithaah). This study aims to determine the factors affecting physical fitness status in prospective pilgrims at the Kenten Health Center in Palembang City in 2023. Method: The design of this study was cross-sectional observational analytics using medical records of prospective pilgrims as many as 171 samples meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were analyzed by Chi-Square test and multinomial logistic regression. Results: 4.7% with less physical fitness status, 52% in the age group ≥60 years, 55.6% of prospective pilgrims are female, 16.4% with basic education level, 52% with BMI in the obese category, 67.8% with central obesity, 5.8% with high cholesterol levels, 57.3% with hypertension and 9.4% with comorbid DM. In the bivariate analysis, there was a significant relationship between age (p value = 0.009), sex (p value = 0.047), and comorbidity of diabetes mellitus (p value = 0.006) on the physical fitness status of pilgrims. There was no significant association between education (p value = 0.266), BMI (p value = 0.999), central obesity (p value = 0.893), hypercholesterol (p value = 0.291), and hypertension (p value = 0.873) on physical fitness status. Age and comorbidities of diabetes mellitus are the factors that most affect the physical fitness status of prospective pilgrims. Conclusions: There was a significant association between age, sex, and comorbidities of DM and physical fitness.
