Abstract
Background: Stroke remains the leading cause of disability and death worldwide. Post-stroke morbidity includes physical, psychological, and cognitive issues. The incidence of PSCI ranges from mild to severe, affecting 60% of stroke patients in the first year. Clinical characteristics, lesion location, and vascular risk are factors that can cause cognitive dysfunction, making early screening crucial for early intervention in improving cognitive function. This study aims to analyze the relationship between stroke lesion location and cognitive impairment in stroke patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang. Method: This study is an observational analytical study using a cross-sectional design with a sample of post-stroke patients in the memory clinic of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, with a total sampling method involving 125 respondents. Data were collected using the medical records of memory clinic patients. Results: Cognitive impairment was found in 116 stroke patients (93%), while 9 stroke patients (7%) did not experience cognitive impairment. In this study, there was no significant relationship between stroke lesion location and cognitive impairment, both based on lobes (p=0.491, p>0.05, 95% CI 0.7933–1.4924) and based on hemispheres (p=0.267, p>0.05, 95% CI 0.9709–1.7601). Conclusion: Post-stroke cognitive impairment is more common in patients with lesion locations involving more than one lobe and bilateral lesions. Keywords: lesion location, cognitive impairment, MoCA-Ina, cognitive domains
