Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is a type of horticultural plant that has economic value and consumed by almost all Indonesian people. cultivation of red chili plants should consider several factors supporting or inhibiting the process of plant growth. One of the factors inhibiting the growth of chili plants is fusarium wilt disease. Effective control can be applied in controlling plant diseases is biological control such as the fungus Trichoderma sp. Therefore, this thesis aims to determine the development of fusarium wilt and the growth of red chili plants after Trichoderma sp is applied. The research was conducted at the Phytopathology Laboratory and Experimental Field, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research was conducted from June to October. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of 5 treatments with 5 replications. Each experimental unit consisted of 1 red chili plant so that 25 experimental units were obtained. Research data from each observation were analyzed using ANOVA with 5% level analysis. The results of the research showed that Fusarium oxysporum isolates had characteristics of pink mycelium. Microconidia are shaped like a half moon with 2-6 bulkheads. Symptoms of Fusarium oxysporum wilt are yellowish-green leaves and brownish stem base. The control treatment without Trichoderma sp. showed the highest severity of fusarium wilt, which was 3.42%. The treatment of Trichoderma sp. at planting showed the lowest severity, which was 0.60%. The highest plant height was in the treatment of Trichoderma sp. at planting, which was 56.8%. The lowest plant height was in the treatment without Trichoderma sp., which was 36.7%. The highest number of leaves in the Trichoderma sp. treatment 10 days before planting, which was 85.6%. The lowest number of leaves was in the treatment of seedling soaking with Trichoderma sp., which was 48.8%. The highest number of flowers was in the Trichoderma sp. treatment at planting time, which was 13.6%. The lowest number of flowers was 8.8% in the Trichoderma sp. treatment. The highest crown wet weight was found in the Trichoderma sp. treatment at planting time, which was 25.2%. The lowest crown weight was in the Trichoderma sp. treatment 10 days before planting, which was 3.2%. The highest root wet weight was in the treatment of seedling soaking in Trichoderma sp., which was 24.1%. The lowest wet weight was in the treatment without Trichoderma sp., which was 3.2%. The highest crown dry weight was in the treatment of seedling soaking with Trichoderma sp. suspension, which was 18.1%. The lowest crown dry weight in the treatment without Trichoderma sp. was 1.10%. Root dry weight was highest in the treatment with Trichoderma sp. 10 days before planting, which was 10.1%. The lowest dry weight was in the treatment of seedling soaking in Trichoderma sp., which was 6.10%. The conclusion of this study is that the application of Trichoderma sp. significantly affects the intensity of fusarium wilt attack. Trichoderma sp. application significantly affects plant growth, such as plant height, number of leaves, wet weight and dry weight of plants. Trichoderma sp. treatment did not significantly affect flower number.
