Abstract

Background: Gestational anemia is classified based on the trimester of pregnancy with Hb levels <6.83 mmol/L (<11 g/dL) in the first and third pregnancies while in the second trimester it is <6.52 mmol/L (<10.5 g/dL). Anemia is a major health problem for pregnant women in developed, developing and poor countries. The prevalence of anemia in Indonesian pregnant women increased significantly in the 2013–2018 period, from 37.1% in 2013 to 48.9% in 2018. Physiologically, anemia in pregnancy occurs due to the increased need for iron and other vitamins due to physiological burdens. pregnancy. Diet is a modifiable risk factor and has the potential to be a target for preventing anemia during pregnancy. Methods: This study used a consecutive sampling method with a cross sectional design. The research sample was 91 pregnant women in Gandus District who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research was conducted in September 2023. Data was taken through direct measurements, short interviews, and filling out the SQ–FFQ questionnaire and processed using the Nutri Survey application. Results: The characteristics of the majority of research respondents were pregnant women aged 20–35 years (79.1%), pregnant women in the third trimester (57.1%), multiparous mothers (42.9%), pregnant women whose previous pregnancies were >2 years (71.4%), did not comply with taking supplementation (75.8), had a secondary education level (63.7%), had household employment status (89%) and family income below the minimum wage (86.8%). The diet of pregnant women based on energy intake is mostly in the deficient category (92.3%). The diet of pregnant women based on protein intake is mostly in the deficient category (63.7%). The prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is highest in the no anemia category (62.6%). The results of statistical analysis show that there is a relationship between eating patterns based on energy intake and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women in the Gandus Health Center working area (p value=0.043). There is a relationship between dietary patterns based on protein intake and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women in the Gandus Health Center working area (p value=0.024). Conclusion: There is a relationship between eating patterns based on energy and protein intake and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women in the Gandus Health Center working area.
