Abstract
Palmyra palm is an annual plant that has economic value and potential as a producer of brown sugar and can grow well. This palm plant can also grow in tropical areas from the lowlands to an altitude of 1,400 m above sea level. The existence of insects on palm plants and surrounding vegetation has an important role on earth, with the number of insect species almost 80% of the total number of animals on earth. However, there is little information and research on insects on palm plants and associated with surrounding vegetation. Therefore, this research is to determine or identify insects found in sugar palm plantations in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The implementation of this research was carried out in Sukaraja Village, Pedamaran Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra in March 2023 until July 2023 using purposive sampling method. Installation of traps to obtain insect species using yellow sticky trap and pitfall trap. Insect sampling was also carried out using the sweep net method. The identification of insects obtained was carried out at the Laboratory of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra. The results of this study showed that the insect species found in the palm flower were A. meliefera, A. cerena, L. minor, P. occidentalis, V. germanica, dan Papilio sp. Insect species found in the vegetation around the sugar palm are Paratettix sp., Meconema sp., Criotettix sp., Calopteron sp., Nisitrus sp., Phlaeoba sp., Orchelimum sp., Caryanda sp., Metaleptea sp., Amblycorypha sp., Neoconocephalus sp., Phlyctinus sp. Dendrolycosa sp., Argiope sp., Conoderus sp., Stagmomantis sp., Alobates sp., Telamonia sp., Tylorida sp., Pisaurina sp., Argiocnemis sp., Acanthocoris sp., Neurothemis sp., L. minor, Entomobrya sp., dan Taeniaptera sp. Insect species associated with aren palm flowers act as pollinators and decomposers, while in the vegetation around the aren palm plants act as pollinators, phytophages, predators, and decomposers.
