Abstract

Rubber Plant (Hevea brasiliensis) is one of the plantation crops that are widely grown and cultivated in Indonesia. Rubber plants produce latex which is widely used as the main source of raw material for rubber products. As an annual plant, rubber can produce up to the age of 25-30 years. Rubber production in Indonesia is relatively high, making Indonesia the second highest rubber producing country in the world. However, one of the problems faced in rubber cultivation is the presence of leaf fall disease caused by Colletotrichum sp. This disease can infect plants at all levels of plant age including the nursery phase, entres garden, immature plants and plants that have produced. This study aims to determine the ability of endophytic bacteria from rubber plants as antagonistic bacteria and the mechanism of inhibition against Colletotrichum sp. causing rubber leaf fall disease. The research was conducted at the Rubber Research Center Sembawa, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province from June to September 2023. The research was conducted by conducting antagonistic tests of 23 endophytic bacteria from the collection of the Rubber Research Center. Antagonistic tests of endophytic bacteria against Colletotrichum sp. were carried out using the dual culture method. Observations were made for 7 days by measuring the radius of Colletotorichum sp. fungi approaching and away from endophytic bacteria. Macroscopic and microscopic observations were made on the day after the last day of observation. The results of the endophytic bacterial antagonist test obtained 23 isolates, 3 of which had the highest inhibitory ability, namely CPB33, CPB2, and CPB3.
