Abstract
The objective of the study was to investigate effect of dormancy cracking and the growth of foxtail palm seedling on different treatments. The research was conducted from April until August 2004 in test farm of Agronomy Department, Agriculture Faculty, University of Sriwijaya. The experiment was arranged a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. The sample observed, consists of 20 seeds that one seed was planted in a polybag. The treatments were; A (without treatment), B (soaking in H2SO4 with concentrate 2% in 24 hours), C (soaking in KNO3 with concentrate 2% in 24 hours), D (soaking in warm water 70 °C until cold (+29 °C)), and E (soaking in water in 24 hours). The result showed soaking in KN03 with concentrate 2% in 24 hours enhanced rate of seeds germination (% per day), rate of seed growth (cm), rate of root growth (cm), and rate of coleoptiles emergence (day) than soaking in H2SO4 with concentrate 2% in 24 hours, soaking in warm water 70 °C until cold (+29 °C), soaking in water in 24 hours.
