Abstract
The objective of this research was to observe the effect of compound fertilizer and pruning on growth and production of blewah (Cucumis melo L.) The research was conducted at research station of Faculty of Agncultural Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, ffom May 2004 until July 2004. Research method was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was compound fertilizer (P) consist of three levels, Po (0 g per plant), Pi (40 g per plant), and P2 (80 g per plant). The second factor was pruning (M) consisted of three levels, Mo (no branch was pruned), Mi (pruning by leaving two branches ), and M2 ( pruning by leaving three branches). The observed parameters in this research were plant length, ffesh weight of plant, dry weight of plant, day of flowering, fruit weight, ffuit weight per plant, ffuit weight per block, soluble solid, fruit diameters, and harvest index. The result of the research showed that compound fertilizer Pi gave the highest plant length, ffesh weight of plant and the earliest day of flowering and pruning by leaving three branches gave the best on ffesh weight of plant, dry weight of plant, fruit weight per plant, fruit weight per block, ffuit diameters, harvest index. There were no interaction between fertilizer and pruning treatments.
