Abstract

This research objective was determine the mechanical properties of fiberboard made ffom midrib palm with urea formaldehyde adhesive. This study was conducted in november 2011 until may 2012 at Workshop of Agriculture Technology departement faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University and Machinery Engineering Laboratory Polytechnic of Sriwijaya. The research used the descriptive methode and the result were presented in tables and graphs. There compotitions of fiberboard materials used in study, the first compotition is the size of the midrib palm (Aj = 1 cm, A2 = 3 cm, A3 = 5 cm), and the second compotitions is the size of the urea formaldehyde adhesive (Bi = 50 gram, B2 = 100 gram, 83= 150 gram). The parameters were internal bonding and hardness brinell. The result showed that the average internal bonding of fiberboard was 14.58 kg/cm2 until 27.32 kg/cm2. The best fiberboard was found to be treatment of fiberboard compotition of A3B3 (combination of size midrib palm 5 cm and size of urea formaldehyde adhesive 150 gram) and hardness brinell of 20.17 kg/cm2.
