Abstract

This study examines "Community participation in preventing crime (Case Study of street K.H. Azhari 4 Ulu Palembang City)". The purpose of this study was to determine the criminal acts that occurred in 4 Ulu and the participation carried out by the 4 Ulu community. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method, while the number of informants in the study is divided into 2, namely, key informants consisting of 11 informants and supporting informants consisting of 1 informant. Data collection techniques carried out in 3 ways, namely, observation, interviews and documentation. This study uses the concept of community participation from Isbandi. The results of the study found that the description of the criminal acts that had occurred in Kelurahan 4 Ulu varied such as murder, motorcycle theft, begal, extortion, narcotics and fraud. The most common crime in the 4 Ulu sub-district at present is motorcycle theft and begal cases. Crimes that occurred in the past and at this time are very different, because in the past, the criminal acts in 4 Ulu were very cruel. The killings were very frequent and for now the criminal acts that are in 4 Ulu are motor theft and begal cases, for murder cases and fraud is rare in 4 Ulu. Acts of criminality have indirectly occurred in Kelurahan 4 Ulu, which is a case of fraud, but fraud has not occurred in Kelurahan 4 Ulu for a long time. The participation of the 4 Ulu community in preventing crime in their homes was a night watch patrol but the activity was not carried out by the 4 Ulu community. Furthermore, the 4 Ulu community implements Policing Community by taking care of themselves and their individual or individual possessions.
