Abstract
HABIBULLOH. Evaluation on Growth, Yield and Ear to row Selection on Several Accessions of Corn (Zea mays L.). (Supervised by ENTIS SUTISNA HALIMI and MERY HASMEDA) The study was to determine the growth and yield and to perform ear to row selection in a plant breeding program to develop some open-pollinated corn varieties for high production. The seeds was originated from 15 corn-cob of full-sib family of 8 accessions of UNSRI-J1 to UNSRI-J8. Observations were made on several growth and yield variables. Data analysis was carried out by using the T-Test at α = 0.05. Results of this research indicated that corn accession of UNSRI-J1 showed the best growth and yield with plant height of 183.52 cm, 50% male flowering at 45 DAP, and potential production of 4.45 ton dry seed/ha, followed by accessions of UNSRI-J2 and UNSRI-J3, which were only significantly different on diameter and weight of the cob. Ear to row selection in preparation for Recurrent Genotypic Selection, by using dry-weigh seeds, come up with 6-9 selected parents for accessions of UNSRI-J1s/d UNSRI-J7, with prediction of yield potential of 1.39-4.70 ton dry seeds/ha. Furthermore, selection by using variables of cob length and dry-weight seeds in preparation for Recurrent Phenotypic Selection, resulted in 6-22 cobs of accessions of UNSRI-J1, UNSRI-J2, UNSRI-J3, UNSRI-J4, UNSRI-J5, dan UNSRI-J7, with prediction of yield potential ranged 2.12 – 6.31 ton dry seeds/ha.
