Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is birth weight which is the less than 2500 grams. LBW has a contributed 60-80% of all neonatal deaths. In 2013, approximately 5 million of neonatal deaths in developing countries along 98% because of LBW. Prevalence LBW in Indonesia at 2013 was 10.2%. LBW have a impact another health problem during infancy when were childhood and in the future, the babies with LBW have a greater risk on developing backwardness and susceptible to disease. Thats is showed the relationship of gestational distance and that is the involve of baby's birth weight will be low. This study purposed how to determine the relationship of gestational distance with incidence of LBW in Indonesia. This study used cross-sectional design. This study used secondary data starting from 2014 of Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS). The sample of this study is a mothers who had been married which age 15-49 years, live birth and have more than one child in survey of the IFLS at 2014. The methods of sampling in this study used simple random sampling. The analyzed data used complex sample. Bivariate analysis with chi-square test and multivariate with multiple logistic regression. The prevalence of LBW based on data analysis of IFLS 2014 is a 36,9%. The result of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between pregnancy distance <24 and >59 month with the occurrence of LBW. This is seen from p–value 0,037 and 0,000. The result of multivariate analysis showed that the effect of pregnancy distance >59 month seen from PR adjusted was a 3,895 (95% CI 1,929- 7,862). Gestational distances have greater influence on LBW occurrence in Indonesia after being controlled by parity variable, smoke, gestational age and pregnancy complications. Researche’s suggestion for health workers is to be more active in health education for visit related about pregnant women and visit pregnant women who can not come to health services for prevent the occurence of low birth weight in Indonesia.
