Abstract

Kailan plant (Brassica oleraceae var. Alboglabra) is a leaf vegetables plant from the Brassicaceae family that contains many vitamins and had a high selling value. This research aims to determined the effect of the application of various doses of rice husk biochar and the right NPK fertilizer in increased growth and production of kailan plants. This research was conducted from September to January 2024 at Politeknik Street, Bukit Lama Urban Village, Palembang, South Sumatra with coordinates 3°00'15.4 "S 104°43'44.5 "E then continued at the Plant Physiology Laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Cultivation and the Chemistry, Biology, and Soil Fertility Laboratory of the Department of Soils, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research used a Factorial Group Random Design (FGRD) consisted of 2 factors. Factor I is rice husk biochar (B) which consists of 3 levels, namely B0 = 0 tonnes ha-1 rice husk biochar, B1 = 10 tonnes ha-1 rice husk biochar, and B2 = 20 tonnes ha-1 rice husk biochar. Factor II was 450 kg ha-1 recommended NPK (N) consisted of 3 levels, namely N0 = 0% recommended NPK, N1 = 50% recommended NPK, and N2 = 100% recommended NPK. There were 9 treatment combinations, which was repeated 4 times and each experimental unit contained 1 plant, so that in total there were 36 plants. The work method carried out in this research is started from made rice husk biochar, prepared of plant media, seed sowed, transplanted, fertilized, maintenance and harvested. The variables observed in this research was the final analysis of soil pH, plant height, number of leaves, crown fresh weight, crown dry weight, root fresh weight, root dry weight, leaf area, leaf greenness, root length and root crown ratio of kailan plants. The results showed that the treatment combination with a dose of 20 tonnes ha-1 rice husk biochar and 100% NPK fertilizer gave better growth and results compared to other doses. Analysis of the production business of kailan plants in swamp soil with the application of 20 tonnes ha-1 rice husk biochar and 100% NPK fertilizer provides profit and suitable for further development based on the value of B/C ratio (1,17) and R/C ratio (2,17).
