Abstract
Introduction: Controlled use of antibiotics is an indicator of the quality of hospital services because it can prevent the emergence of antimicrobial resistance and save on antibiotic use. Ultimately, this will reduce patient care costs, shorten the duration of treatment, save hospitals, and improve the quality of hospital services. Dr. Provincial General Hospital Mohammad Hoesin Palembang handles and cares for COVID-19 patients. The use of antibiotics in treated patients varies, so evaluation of antibiotic use is needed. This study aims to analyze the quantity of antibiotic use based on the Defined Daily Dose (DDD) in COVID-19 patients treated in the ICU Isolation Room at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This research is a descriptive observational study with retrospective data collection. The research was conducted on COVID-19 patients treated in the ICU Isolation Room who received antibiotic therapy for the period 31 July 2020- 31 July 2021 at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. The research was carried out by looking at the patient's medical records, nurse notes and patient medication administration records. From the research results, data processing was carried out based on patient characteristics, clinical data and laboratory data, then evaluated quantitatively using the DDD method. The sample used in this research was 179 people. Results: The results of this study include the use of antibiotics in all COVID-19 patients in the ICU Isolation Room at Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang with a wide variety of types. Data analysis using quantity analysis of antibiotic use with Defined Daily Dose (DDD) analysis shows that there are efforts to optimize treatment and control antibiotic resistance through dose adjustments according to clinical needs. Patient demographic and clinical characteristics influence antibiotic selection and dosing, including age, sex, body mass index, serum lactate levels, leukocyte levels, and procalcitonin. The high use of antibiotics emphasizes the importance of regular monitoring and evaluation to prevent an increase in antimicrobial resistance.
