Abstract

The percentage coverage of inpatient visits in South Sumatra Province has decreased significantly compared to 2020. This is a concern because inpatient service is one of the indicators of health service utilization that affects the degree of public health. The purpose of this study was to identify the determinants of inpatient service utilization in South Sumatra Province. This study is a quantitative study with a cross – sectional approach using data from the March 2023 National Socio – Economic Survey (SUSENAS). The study sample totalled 33.103 respondents who had been adjusted to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed univariate, bivariate using chi – square test, and multivariate using multiple logistic regression test. The study showed that the utilization of inpatient services in South Sumatra Province was 2,5%. The characteristics that had a significant relationship with the utilization of inpatient services in this province were elderly (≥ 60 years), female, married status, high education level, not working, having health insurance, living in urban areas and having health complaints. The most influential predictor was having health complaints with an Adjusted PR of 2,724 (95% CI: 2,181 – 3,404), after controlling for other variables. This study concluded that health complaints as a measure of individual needs for health services are the most determinant factor of inpatient service utilization. The South Sumatra Provincial Government is expected to optimize free and affordable health screening programs for the community on a regular basis, especially in priority groups.
