Abstract

Ultisols are the dominant soil in Indonesian drylands. However, these soils generally have soil constraints such as high soil acidity, low organic matter and low N P nutrients. Efforts to improve Ultisol to overcome these problems include the use of PGPR biofertilizers and a combination of compost-biochar. PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) from bamboo roots can help increase the availability of nitrogen in the soil and dissolve phosphate and support the growth of soil microbes. The combination of rice husk compost-biochar fertilizer can also improve the physical properties and fertility of Ultisol soil. This study aims to determine the effect of PGPR bamboo and compost-biochar doses on the availability of N and P nutrients and the growth and yield of Pakcoy (Brassica chinensis L.) plants on Ultisol. This research was conducted from September to December 2023. This research was conducted in Green House, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The experiment was conducted using a Randomized Complete Factorial Design (RALF) with two factors. Each treatment was repeated 3 times to get 27 experimental polybag units. The treatment of PGPR bamboo (P) and compost-biochar (K) had a significant effect on soil pH, N-total, growth and yield of Pakcoy plants. The combined treatment of PGPR bamboo and compost-biochar (PK) had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves and root weight of Pakcoy plants. The combination of PGPR bamboo treatment at a dose of 20 ml PGPR polybag-1 and compost-biochar at a dose of 20 tons ha-1 gave the best effect in increasing pH, P-availability, growth and yield of Pakcoy plants. While the PGPR Bamboo treatment with a dose of 40 ml PGPR polybag-1 and Compost-Biochar with a dose of 20 tons ha-1 gives the best effect in increasing N-total in the soil.
