Abstract

Adolescence is a period of rapid growth and development that requires increased nutritional intake Normal nutritional status in adolescents can be achieved by balancing nutritional intake and energy expenditure. If these two things are not balanced, it will result in excess or lack of nutrition. Nutritional problems experienced by adolescents have a significant impact on the process of adolescent growth and development. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between eating patterns and sedentary behavior and nutritional status in adolescents. This research is a non-experimental quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The total sample in this study was 87 teenagers who were selected using probability sampling techniques with the proportionate stratified random sampling method. The instruments used in this research were the Estimated Food Record Form and the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) Statistical analysis in this research used the chi square test. The research results obtained a p value of 0.018 (<0.05) indicating that there was a significant relationship between sedentary behavior and nutritional status in adolescents and an OR value of 2.877 (74%) was obtained. Meanwhile, the dietary pattern variable showed no relationship with nutritional status in adolescents with a p value of 0.130 (<0.05). The conclusion in this study shows that sedentary behavior will increase the risk of obesity because of the lack of energy burning from energy intake through food consumption. Future researchers are expected to conduct further research on the relationship between sedentary behavior and mutritional status by taking into account the factors of age, economic status and employment. It is hoped that this research can be used as a reference source for future researchers to identify effective intervention media for adolescents to prevent sedentary behavior and support the achievement of good nutritional status.
