Abstract
Corn (Zea mays L.) is a food source of high economic value because of its position as the main source of carbohydrates and protein after rice. The problem that often occurs in corn cultivation is weeds. Chemical weed control using herbicides in large planting areas can be the right choice because it can save production costs and reduce damage to soil structure, however, continuous use of one type of herbicide can create weed resistance. This research aims to determine the effect of single and mixed herbicides on the growth and yield of corn plants and to determine the effect of single and mixed herbicides on weed control. This research was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with eight treatments, each treatment repeated three times. This research was carried out from February 2023 to June 2023 at the land Farmers Jln Tanjung Api-api, Talang Jambe, Sukarami, Palembang City (-2.897971,104.724409). Based on the research results, it showed that there was a decrease in weed species from twelve to eleven weed species. The level of weed dominance at three WAP and Five WAP showed that the dominant weed was Setaria verticillata, followed by Cyperus rotundus and Sieruela rutidosperma. The herbicide treatment with the active ingredient atrazine + saflufenacil produced a total dry weight of weeds of three WAP and the lightest five WAP, this means this herbicide was most effective in controlling weeds in corn planting areas. Observation results on corn growth and production. Herbicide treatment with the active ingredient atrazine + saflufenacil was able to increase corn plant height at six WAP and eight WAP, number of leaves at six WAP, cob length, cob weight and dry seed weight per plot. Weed control using herbicides in the various treatments tested did not cause phytotoxicity in corn plants. Keywords: Weeds; Herbicide; Atrazine; Nicosulfuron; Saflufenacil; Corn.
