Abstract

BRIS {Beach Ridges interspersed with swales) soil is the sandy soil that distributed along the east coastal area of Peninsular Malaysia. This soil is the marginal soil because of the soil has low nutrient contain, so this soil cannot give the amount of essential nutrient for plant growth requirement . Needed further study about BRIS for knowing BRIS soil development because this land is formed by young sediments (< 10,000 year). It’s possible the soil has been developing. This research is aims to study the BRIS soil such as soil morphology features, classified the soil and given the practice management for BRIS land agronomy utilizing in Merang, Terengganu. In this study soil sampling is based on height and distance of the terraces. The results showed that BRIS soil have different soil series in different terraces In the Ri terraces has founded the Baging, this soil has no differentiated horizon. In the order cluster this soil is classified as Entisols. The soil that founded in the R2, and R3 terraces are classified as Spodosols because present of Spodic horizon below Albic horizon. In R2 terraces has founded Rhu Tapai which has distinguish by present of Spodic horizon in < 50 cm depth, approximately in 41 cm depth and present of eluviation horizon within 0-41 cm ffom soil surface. Jambu has founded in R3, this soil has Spodic horizon in > 100 cm depth, approximately in 109 cm and the present of Albic horizon in 16 - 109 cm depth.
