Abstract

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is an eye and vision condition that affects people due to constant use of computers, tablets and cell phones. The symptoms felt by sufferers are temporary and not life threatening, but the impact can reduce work productivity by 64%-90%. This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of computer use and CVS complaints in Lonsum employees, Palembang Branch Office. This study used a cross sectional study with a sample size of 70 employees. Data analysis techniques were univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. Data analysis used chi-square test and multiple logistic regression test. The incidence of CVS in Lonsum employees was 71.4% and from the results of the chi-square test only one variable was found to have a significant relationship with CVS complaints in Lonsum employees, which is the duration of computer use (p=0.000). Duration of computer use ≥4 hours had a risk of 15.2 times (PRcrude=15.203, 96% CI: 3.371 - 68.562) greater to experience CVS complaint after controlled with confounding variables of visibility, local lighting, use of glasses, and gender. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that there is a need for regular eye health checks for computer-using employees (once every two years) and computer-using employees are expected to apply the rule of 20-20-20 to prevent CVS complaints.
