Abstract

This type of research is experimental research which aims to determine the magnitude of the corrosion rate on St 37 steel using battery water in the quenching process. This research was carried out in the testing laboratory of the Sriwijaya University mechanical engineering education study program in the odd semester of 2023. The independent variable in this research was quenching heat treatment with battery water solution, while the dependent variable was the corrosion rate of St 37 steel. Based on the research results it was found that the rate value St 37 steel corrosion with variations in copper solution content of 25%, 25%, 50%, 50%, 100%, 100% in the queching process has a corrosion rate value of 40.7797 mmpy, 43.7134 mmpy, 45.2009 mmpy respectively , 123.6255 mmpy, 118.2788 mmpy, 118.3633 mmpy, and have mass loss values of 6.84 gr, 7.54 gr, 7.24 gr, 20.66 gr, 19.34 gr, 18 .95 gr. Based on the corrosion rate value in the quenching process of St 37 steel against battery water with a copper solution cooling medium, it can be concluded that the specimen shows an increase in the corrosion rate in the quenching process after treatment with the battery water solution.
