Abstract

This research aims to analyze the market structure and production competition of coal in the Indonesian market, as well as to determine the influence of coal production on Indonesia's economic growth. The data used in this study are secondary data in the form of panel data from 5 provinces in Indonesia, namely West Papua Province, South Kalimantan, South Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh during the period 2008 – 2022, sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). The method used in this research employs a quantitative approach by applying panel data regression analysis and used Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The research findings indicate that the coal industry market structure in Indonesia exhibits full Oligopoly market concentration. The calculation results of the coal industry market concentration ratio in Indonesia during the period 2008-2022 show that the average CR4 value of this industry is 70.93 percent, indicating a large number of companies with different business sizes in the industry, and market concentration is high. Regression test results indicate that, partially, coal production does not have a positive and significant effect on coal economic growth in Indonesia.
