Abstract

Water management at micro level is the key to successfiil cultivation of com in tidal land. Fluctuations and the amount of excess water may reduce the productivity and quality of the crop due to its sensitive with the excess water. The aim of this research was the assess groundwater dynamic and c anal water level in tertiary plot and to assess micro water management for com cultivation in rainy season. This research was conducted using semi-detailed survey at 1: 20.000 scale for the tertiary plot (16 ha). The survey was carried out by analyzing the status of groundwater levels in the land and the water levels in the secondary and tertiary canals and finally analyzing the growth rate of com crop. This research was conducted on tidal land area P17-5S Desa Mulyasari Kecamatan Tanjung Lago Kabupaten Banyuasin South Sumatra Province. This research was started from October 2013 to January 2014. The result of this research showed that fluctuative ground water level for first planting season caused ground water level exceeding soil surface and inundating the farm land. The result of hydraulic conductivity measurement in field was moderately, it could be caused by several factors that influence such as water flow, waterway and soil condition during drilling was found root, the rest of plant, and cracks. The range value, from 6 points was quite moderate (4.01-5.01) cm/hour, the highest found in plot 1 5.01 and the lowest found in plot 2 4.01 cm/hr. Range calculation using Hooghoudt method with various hydraulic conductivity value resulted range between canal was 23.45-26.23 m. Average value of hydraulic conductivity was 1.10 m/day, and found range between canals was 25 m. Water gate observation showed that planned water gate didn't run properly in the field. It was caused by cultivated plant comodity was not similar. Some of farmers cultivated com and some farmers cultivated paddy so that required water was different. Water level condition on farm land Mulyasari Vilage (P17-5S) was not suitable to conduct com planting in first planting (October-January 2014). It showed that water level on farm land was above the depth of 30 cm and in certain time always inundated. However this first planting was suitable to conduct paddy cultivation due to paddy could grow well eventhough in inundation root condition.
