Abstract

In fulfilling the demand for electrical energy, load imbalance often occurs due to the unequal loads in each phase. This load imbalance can cause the transformer's ability to decrease in serving the load. This study was conducted to determine the impact of load imbalance before and after load balancing. Load balancing in this study was implemented using the Off-Peak Load Time (LWBP) and Peak Load Time (WBP) methods. From the calculations performed on the LA.409 distribution transformer, the highest load imbalance percentage reached 40.29%, occurring on Sunday afternoon, and the lowest load imbalance percentage was 16.98%, occurring on Wednesday night. Based on the analysis, load imbalance does not correlate with neutral current because neutral current can also be caused by harmonics. However, load imbalance can cause significant losses if there is no load balancing efforts. From the calculations performed, the total network losses during the day before load balancing were 75487,439 Watts and at night were 113175,693 Watts over seven days. Meanwhile, the total network losses after load balancing during the day were 54845,571 Watts and at night were 94730,256 Watts over seven days. Keywords : Load imbalance, neutral current, losses
