Abstract
Aphid is attracted by colour and is able to differentiate colours very well. The ability of aphid to differentiate colours can be made use to control its population. The objective of this research was to identify colour and size of sticky trap as well as the proper time to trap winged imago of Aphis gossypii Glover. The experiment was arranged in a factorial completely randomized design (FCRD) consisted of 2 treatments and 12 replications. First treatment was size of sticky trap (2 levels) and the second treatment was colour of sticky trap (5 levels). The 5 colours of the sticky traps were yellow, orange, green, blue and red. Sizes of the sticky trap were large size (2.480 cm2) and small size (610 cm2). The results showed that trap colour, trap size, and their interaction significantly affected the result trapped winged imagoes of A. gossypii. Time of trapping also significantly affected the result. Yellow was the most preferred colour by the aphid A. gossypii compared to other colours. The least preferred colours were red and blue. The big sticky trap could catch more winged A. gossypii imagoes than the small trap. Evening trapping could catch more winged A. gossypii imagoes compared to that of morning trapping.
