Abstract
Water hyacinth can potentially be used as a food source for Hermetia illucens L. due to its high nutritional content. In addition, as an effort to overcome environmental problems. One of the efforts to improve nutrition in water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) by fermenting it with the addition of EM4. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the length of fermentation of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) by EM4 which gave the best effect on feed consumption, conversion efficiency and growth of Hermetia illucens L. (Diptera; Stratiomydae). This research design uses a Randomized Group Design (RAK) with 4 treatments including P0 (control), P1 (4 days fermentation), P2 (7 days fermentation) and P3 (10 days fermentation) and each treatment is done 6 times repetition. The results of this study showed that the best treatment was the provision of fermented water hyacinth with the addition of EM4 in treatment P1 (fermentation 4 days). The highest feed consumption value in treatment P1 with an average of 32.5%. The highest conversion efficiency value was in the P1 treatment with an average of 4.3%. The highest maggot growth was in treatment P1 with an average weight of 0.29 g and a length of 1.35 cm. The conclusion of this study is that the provision of fermented water hyacinth with the addition of EM4 with different fermentation lengths affects the value of feed consumption, conversion efficiency, and growth of Hermetia illucens L. maggot.
