Abstract

Cancer recently has become a very dangerous medical condition. Every year there is an increase in number of cancer patients. One of cancer treatments chemotherapy which requires the patients to visit hospitals repeatedly and to experience invasive procedures such as infusion therapy. The registration of infusion therapy can cause pain in children which triggers fear, trauma, panic attack, and uncooperativeness. This might be overcome by giving therapy one of which is by video watching. This study was conducted to find out the effect of video watching toward pain level in invasive procedures in school aged children with cancer in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. It is a quasi-experimental study with self-controlled study design. There were 17 respondents who experienced infusion registration with and without video watching therapy. The results show that 8 (47.1 %) respondents displayed a fair level of pain. The bivariate data analysis using marginal homogeneity show p value of 0.014. The results indicated that there was a significant effect toward pain level in invasive procedures. It is expected that the results can share information on pain management in children.
