Abstract
Engineered cementitious composite (ECC) is one of the innovations in cement-based materials with no coarse aggregate. Reinforcing with fiber is another attempt that aims to improve their tensile strength and behavior. This study combines these two types of innovations to determine the influence of synthetic macro fibers on tensile strength in the engineered cementitious composite. Variation in the percentage of use of polypropylene macro synthetic fibers 0%; 0,75%; 1%; and 1.25% to the weight of the volume of the sample, respectively, mixed in a mixture with the characteristic compressive strength of K-225. The test parameters are tensile and flexural strength and their behavior. The increasing number of fibers percentage is proven to be able to improve the tensile behavior of concrete which is shown by the tensile collapse pattern with a fine cracking pattern with a significantly decreasing number. However, the use of this type of polypropylene macro synthetic fiber is not able to increase the tensile strength of cement composites. This is shown by the average tensile strength value in the fiber mixture of 0.75%, 1% and 1.25% respectively of 2.97 MPa; 3.31 MPa; and 3.64 MPa compared to the normal sample of 3.91 MPa. In addition, the average flexure strength in the fiber mixture of 0.75%, 1% and 1.25% respectively was 2.75 MPa; 3.82 MPa; and 3.85 MPa when compared to the average flexural strength of the normal sample of 4.485 MPa. When compared to all test pieces, the percentage of polypropylene macro synthetic fiber of 1.25% is the optimal mixture that produces the highest tensile strength and flexural strength.
