Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels due to insulin resistance or inadequate insulin production. Management of Type 2 DM in hospitals only focuses on pharmacological and dietary therapy, while physical activity is still not optimized. One of the physical activities that can be done in Type 2 DM patients is progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) therapy and diabetic foot exercises. PMR and diabetic foot exercise in its implementation can reduce blood glucose levels by increasing glucose uptake by muscles and improving insulin utilization. Objective: To apply comprehensive nursing care and provide PMR therapy and diabetic foot exercises in patients with Type 2 DM. Methods: The method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Results: The results of the case study assessment showed that the three managed patients experienced the same problem, namely instability of blood glucose levels with complaints of fatigue/lethargy and an increase in blood sugar levels >200 mg/dL. The intervention given to overcome these problems is hyperglycemia management with the collaboration of PMR therapy and diabetic foot exercises. Implementation carried out for three consecutive days resulted in the three patients experiencing a decrease in blood glucose levels <200 mg/dL and a more energized body. Conclusion: The provision of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) therapy and diabetic foot exercises are effective in reducing blood glucose levels in Type 2 DM patients
