Abstract

The aim of this research is to make porous composite material by using powder metallurgy method. The material used is aluminum powder mixed with powder alumina and uses green beans as pore forming material on the composite. TGA was tested on green beans weighing 54.546 mg. At the temperature of 500o green beans have not decreased weight to the remaining residual 1.72 mg or about 3.16%. Using variations in the use of green beans to determine the pore differences present in each material composition. There are 3 Processes that will be used that is Process mixing, Compression Process and Furnace Process. At sintering heating rate in setting to 2 hours. From room temperature 30oC - 500oC with heating rate 4oC/min. Then held holding time for 2 hours. And also, do physical and mechanical test to know more about the strength of each variation in test material. From the density test the average yield on each space holder variation is 10% of space holder has average pores 42.37%, 20% of space holder has average pore 37.96% and 30% of space holder has pores averaged 29.65%. In the test of compressive strength, the result is that 10% of space holder have an average compressive strength of 23.20%, at 20% of space holder having an average compressive strength of 14.87% and at 30% of the space holder having an average compressive strength 7.02%. In the XRD test conducted on aluminum powder, the main aluminum peak results are in the position of 38.486, 44.728, 65.101, 78.287 and in the XRD test conducted on Aluminum powder which has been mixed powdered alumina and green bean powder found that the main aluminum peak is 38462 , 44.674, 65.098, 78.183 Universitas Sriwijaya while the main peak of alumina is in position 25,579, 35,143, 37.77, 43.338, 45.81, 52.55, 57.470, 66.79, 76.91. In the SEM test From the observation at 2 points on the test sample, found the known porosity is a space holder with unequal size. The size ranges from ± 9.53 μm to ± 288.85 μm
