Abstract
Tidal Land was one of wetlands that contributor to emissions of methane gas (CH4) when anaerobic conditions. Inappropriate land management will lead to increased emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Plant rooting area was the Central activity of soil microbe because exudates produced a source of nutrition for microbes. Methanotroph bacteria was aerobic microomisms that were able to oxidize methane. The ability of methanotroph bacteria to oxidize methane because they had methane monooxygenase enzyme (MMO). This research was aimed to know population of methanotroph bacteria from root zone areas of oil palm on tidal land at Sungai Dua Village, Banyuasin, South Sumatera and the relationship of methanotroph bacteria populations with some Chemical attributes of soil (pH, C-organic and N-total). This research was carried out in the laboratories of physics, chemistry and fertility of the soil, the Faculty of agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. While soil samples was taken from the tidal land, palm oil plantation in the Sungai Dua Village, Banyuasin, South Sumatera and carried out from October-December 2015. The samples were taken by used survey methode at oil palm fields. Methanotroph bacteria were isolated from oil palm rhizosphere, disc of oil palm, the outside of the disc and areas not planted with oil palm. Isolation of methanotroph bacteria was done with use the selective agar medium NMS (Nitrate Mineral Salt) added 1 % methanol, at a temperature of 27 °C and the calculation of methanotroph bacteria has done by plate count methode. The relationship of methanotroph bacteria with Chemical attributes analyzed with regression test and correlation. The Population of methanotroph bacteria was in the range of 6,33-6,90 log cfu g'1 soil, and the highiest population was found from the sample soil from rhizosphere zone and disc of oil palm. Based on the results of the regression and correlation showed that soil PH, C-organic and N-total not correlated with population of methanotroph bacteria.
