Abstract
Flooding problems often occur in Indonesia's capital and surrounding areas. Just as in Palembang, South Sumatra Province which is a metropolitan city with a myriad of problems one of them like a flood. One of the causes of the flooding or water logging may include changes in land use where the total population is increasing. If the solution for problems like this can’t be found, then there will be other problems that could damage the ecosystem environment around puddles. With the increasingly widespread problem of flooding in the city of Palembang where especially around Kol. H. Burlian street, hence the need for the planned construction of retention ponds using spillway and sluice building. This study consists of several stages and using calculations modelling with the help of HEC HMS program. Where this modeling adjust the shape of catchment area which have been determined to find out how much area retention ponds and reservoirs are needed as well as the flow rate out of the retention ponds. Then the results of simulation modeling will be compared to manual calculation results that have been obtained previously. Based on the results of manual calculations in the form of direct runoff hydrograph obtained Qpeak value is at 16.00 m3 / sec. Retention pond has a planned area of 2.5 hectares or 25,000 m2 and a height of 5 m pool, so the retention pond has a catchment of 125,000 m3 and is assisted by using a spillway which has a width of 6 m is located at the elevation of 4.2 m from the bottom of the pond and 30 cm of above normal water level and water gates with a width of 2 m and a height of 3.3 m. From the results of this study showed that the presence of such planning the construction of retention ponds above can overcome the flooding problems that occurred in the vicinity of Kol. H. Burlian Street Palembang.
