Abstract

The effect of different shade intensities and vermicompost application on the growth and yield of lollo rosso lettuce has not been widely studied, so references on this subject are not widely available. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of different shade intensities and vermicompost applications on the growth of lollo rosso lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). This research was conducted in June until september 2023 in the Pondok Hijau Boarding House yard, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province with coordinate points 3°12'39" N and 104°39'12" E. This study was organized using a split plot design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The main plot factor was the difference in shade intensity, consisting of N0 = Control, N1 = 50% shade, N2 = 75% shade, N3 = 90% shade. The subplot factor was the application of vermicompost, consisting of V1 = 50 g, V2 = 100 g, V3 = 150 g. The parameters observed were daily leaf length, daily leaf width, length and width ratio, weekly leaf length, weekly leaf width, weekly stalk length, number of leaves, plant height, crown diameter, internodus, root length, leaf fresh weight, stem fresh weight, stalk fresh weight, root fresh weight, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, stalk dry weight, root dry weight. The results showed that the shade treatment gave a real effect on almost all growth parameters, except the number of leaves and stalk length. While the vermicompost dose treatment had no significant effect on all growth parameters. The results suggest that a low level of shade intensity can trigger the growth and development of lettuce well. Lettuce lollo rosso can be cultivated in the lowlands
