Abstract

Palliative patients have so many changes both physical and spiritual therefore the patients need the role of nurses and families in providing a spiritual support to improve the quality of life of palliative patients. Unfortunately, spiritual needs are rarely implemented because the treatment only focuses on the patient’s physical. Meeting of spiritual needs is really needed to improve coping behaviors. The nurse as a comprehensive nursing nurse must be able to fulfill the patient's spiritual needs to help the patient maintain his spiritual prosperity. The purpose of this study was to know the description of the spiritual needs of nurses and families of palliative patients in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This study used descriptive survey with cross sectional design. The sample of this study used purposive sampling technique, which was 86 respondent. Data collection was conducted by using questionnaires of spiritual needs fulfillment by nurses as many as 17 questions and spiritual needs fulfillment by family as many as14 questions by using likert scale. Data analysis which was used was univariate analysis. The result of this study was obtained that fulfillment of spiritual needs by nurses met (52.3%) and fulfillment of spiritual needs by the family met (51.2%). In conclusion, this study highlights that giving a nursing care of spiritual aspect need to be considered in order to create a comprehensive nursing care.
