Abstract

Banyuasin estuary are waters of affected by activities from the land. Nutrients derived from land and human activities may potentially decrease the water quality. Tidal processes in estuary may affect the fluctuations of physical and chemical properties, such as temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH and nutrients. This research aimed to determine the concentrations of nutrients (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate) to examine the pattern distributions of nutrient concentrations at high and low tide conditions in the Banyuasin Estuary. Purposive sampling method was used selectthe location, 20 stations representing mouth of the river, estuary and sea. The result of measurement nutrients concentration and physics-chemical parameters were processed using Microsoft Excel for created graphics, then using Surfer 13 software for created distributions. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the concentrations obtained, based on quality standards of KMNLH/51/2004. The range of ammonia concentration when high tidewas 0.0514 – 0.8346 mg/l, the range of nitrate concentration was 0.0096–0.5801 mg/l, the range of nitrite concentrationwas 0.0012 – 0.1195 mg/l and the range of phosphate was 0.0056 – 0.1441 mg/l. The range of ammonia concentration when low tide was 0.1443 – 0.5778 mg/l, the range of nitrate concentration was 0.0128 – 0.7452 mg/l, the range of nitrite concentration was 0.0014 – 0.0772 mg/l and the range of phosphate was 0.0138 – 0.1186 mg/l. The research revealed results that nutrients concentrations at high tide was higher in sea than river, while at low tide was higher in river than sea.
