Abstract

The number of family members living in the same house and the high incidence of diarrhea in the Pemulutan District area can be determinant factors for stunting. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the number of children and the incidence of diarrhea with the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The data obtained were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. This study used secondary data on the results of the FKM Unsri Student Field Learning Practice Year 2023 in the Pemulutan District area with a total sample size of 592. The results of univariate analysis showed that the average age of the respondent's mother was 30.28 years, the average age of the child was 23.45 months. The most dominant mother's education was high school 207 respondents (35.0%), the most dominant mother's occupation was as a housewife 474 respondents (80.1%) and the most dominant child's gender was male 308 respondents (52.0%). The results of the bivariate analysis stated that there was no significant relationship between the variable of diarrhea incidence and the incidence of stunting in Pemulutan District (p-value = 0.267) and there was no significant relationship between the variable number of children and the incidence of stunting in Pemulutan District (p-value = 0.991). It is recommended that the Ogan Ilir Regency Health Office should develop a program or policy to reduce the prevalence of stunting. In particular, the Puskesmas of Pemulutan Subdistrict should make preventive and promotive efforts against the factors that cause stunting, such as preventing infectious diseases such as diarrhea, educating the number of children in a family and paying more attention to providing intake to children.
