Abstract

This study was entitled The Meaning of Sriwijaya Campus Public Space for Communities in North lndralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This study examines the problems regarding the awareness of the Indralaya Society in utilizing the Sriwijaya Campus as a public space and the motives of the community usiing the Sriwijaya Campus. This research was descriptive qualitative which draws descriptive data from the phenomena studied with the community analysis unit. In determining the informants used purposive purpose to get more detailed information in accordance with the research problems. The research strategy used was phenomenology with data collection techniques in the form of observations, in-depth interviews and documentation. The collec1ed data is then analyzed phenomenology and triangulation. The result of this study indicate that the meaning of public space Sriwijoya campus was formed through public awareness in utilizing the Sriwijaya Campus as a public space formed on the basis of their own willingness, friend invitation, family, student and student invitation, so that the community can carry out activities on the Sriwijaya Campus. After the awareness, a Community Motive emerged m the form of because motive and in order to motive. Because Motive exists because of its strategic location, environmental conditions that make people comfortable and happy to use the Sriwijaya Campus as its public space, further motives, in order to motive there are reasons as alternative places to exercise, with awareness and motives of the community, meaning which reflects the lives of people who need interaction and communication
