Abstract

The research carried out aimed to determine the effectiveness of cutting speed of oil palm fronds using a mechanical pruning tool using various types of blades. This research uses a descriptive method by presenting data in table form. Treatment factors included manual dodos blades, mechanical dodos, manual egrek, mechanical egrek, and chainsaw with each blade being repeated 5 times. The parameters used in this research are 1) Machine Torque, 2) Tool Working Capacity, 3 Tool Efficiency, and 4) Fuel Requirement. The research results obtained were that the highest mechanical harvest machine torque was found on the mechanical dodos blade with an average of 6053 r/min or 1.45768 lb-ft. Meanwhile, the lowest mechanical harvest machine torque was found on the chainsaw with an average of 5409 r/min or 1.63134 lb-ft. In measuring the working capacity of the tool, the highest was found on the mechanical egrek blade at 357 fronds/hour. Meanwhile, the lowest tool working capacity measurement was found on the chainsaw blade at 91 blades/hour. The highest tool work efficiency measurement results were found on mechanical egret blades at 74%, while the lowest tool work efficiency results were found on manual dodos blades at 53%. The highest fuel requirement measurement results were for the mechanical egret blade at 0.13 liters/hour, while the lowest fuel requirement results were for the chainsaw blade at 0.03 liters/hour.
