Abstract

and maintaining water quality, as the groundwater table level can impact peatlands and must be considered in peatland management to ensure environmental quality. This study aims to determine the effect of the groundwater table on peat moisture content and understand the characteristics of peat. The research method used is a detailed survey method, involving direct field surveys and data processing using descriptive methods. This method is used to interpret data and provide a deeper understanding of the phenomenon being studied. The research was conducted in two stages: determining peat maturity in the field and determining soil moisture content in the laboratory. The results of this study indicate that shallower peat has a lower groundwater table depth. The peat groundwater table varies significantly, reflecting seasonal cycles. Most points indicate mature peat (sapric), while some indicate semi-mature peat (hemic) and raw peat (fibric). Considering the positive correlation between the peat groundwater table and peat moisture content, as well as the complexity of hydrological dynamics, it is recommended to manage peatlands by considering factors such as rainfall, natural drainage, and land use to achieve sustainable peatland management.
