Abstract
Delivery in non-health facilities in rural Indonesia is still high. Delivering in a health facility can minimize the risk of unwanted delivery and reduce maternal mortality. This study aimed to examine the determinants of the choice of delivery at a healthcare facility in rural Indonesia. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study design using 2018 Riskesdas data. The study sample was 34,012 mothers adjusted to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed univariately, bivariate using chi-square test and multivariately using multiple logistic regression test. The results showed that 69.3% of mothers chose to deliver at a health facility in rural Indonesia. The characteristics that had a significant relationship with the selection of delivery at a health care facility in rural Indonesia were maternal age, maternal education, parity, number of ANC (Antenatal Care) visits, labor complications, travel time to health facilities, and health insurance. Maternal occupation and husband's occupation did not show a significant relationship. The most influential predictor was health insurance with an Adjusted PR of 4.496 (95%CI: 4.152-4.869) after controlling for other variables. This study concludes that health insurance ownership is the most pressing factor in delivering at a health facility in rural Indonesia. The government is expected to organize a comprehensive education campaign on health insurance benefits, especially for uninsured mothers in rural areas.
