Abstract

Macrofungi are heterotrophic organisms belonging to the kingdom fungi. Macrofungi have special characteristics, one of which is that they are able to produce clearly visible fruit bodies (sporocarps). Macrofungi can be used as an indicator that an area has large biomass availability and high air humidity (~70-90%). PT Sumatra Prima Fiberboard (SPF) as one of the largest wood processing companies in Indonesia is known to be capable of producing 140,000 M3 of fiberboard with a by-product in the form of biomass. Apart from that, PT SPF's environmental conditions, which have an average air temperature of 28.7℃ and humidity of 70%, as well as high substrate availability, are considered to have great potential for the growth of macrofungi. Further exploration and inventory of macrofungi, especially from the phyla Ascomycota and Basidiomycota, needs to be carried out to increase data on the biodiversity of macrofungi that inhabit the PT SPF area and provide information regarding their characteristics and uses for life. This research aims to obtain macrofungi in the PT SPF area, determine the character of macrofungi, and determine the identity of macrofungi based on their morphological characters. This research was carried out from March 2023 to September 2023 in the wood processing industrial area of PT Sumatra Prima Fiberboard and the Microbiology Laboratory, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This research stage consists of an initial research survey, sampling, making a herbarium, molding fungal spores, characterizing macrofungi, identifying the genus of macrofungi, and presenting data. When measuring environmental variables, the PT SPF area was found to have an average temperature in the range of 30-34℃, pH 6.0-7.0, and air humidity of 60-70%. The PT SPF area found many macrofungi, especially in the biomass and logyard areas. The results of the macroscopic morphological characterization of the 8 samples obtained showed that all macrofungi samples had a pleurotoid morphology type. The identification results of the 8 macrofungi obtained showed that there were 2 samples from the genus Ganoderma (MF1 and MF3), 2 samples from the genus Panus (MF4 and MF5), while the rest came from the genera Lenzites (MF2), Pycnoporus (MF6), Trametes (MF7), and Schizophyllum (MF8).
