Abstract

A Logo is a form of visual communication used to convey messages to the public. The visual design of a logo is often influenced by local cultural symbols. The halal logo plays a vital role for Muslims, serving as a marker that ensures the halal status of a product according to Islamic law. This study aims to identify and analyze the cultural symbols present in the halal logo issued by Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH). The study employs Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotics theory to analyze the signs and meanings within the visual logo. The research method used is qualitative, with data collection techniques including document studies and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that the BPJPH halal logo contains cultural symbols, such as the gunungan shape from wayang, which symbolizes the connection between the concept of halal and spiritual and cultural reflection in Indonesia. The lurik motif and halal calligraphy reflect a blend of local traditions and religiosity, while the colors purple and turquoise communicate purity and tranquility. The typography used also strengthens the halal message conveyed. The conclusion of this study asserts that the BPJPH halal logo is not merely a symbol of halal certification, but also a medium that connects religious values with local cultural heritage.
