Abstract
The research was done from December 2003 up to October 2004 at Greenhouse, Plant Pests and Diseases Department, Agricultural Faculty, Sriwijaya University. The objective of this research was to evaluate pathogenicity of 10 B. bassiana isolates against P. xylostella larvae. The parameters of the research were percent of mortality of larvae and pupae, and LT50. The tested isolates were orginally obtained from several insects, i.e. Nilaparvata lugens (Stal.), P. xylostella (Linn.), Chrysodeixis chalcites (Esp.), Hypothenemus hampei (Ferr.), Conopomorpha cramerella (Sn.), Thrips tabaci (Lind.), and Leptocorixa acuta (Thunb). Conidia from slant culture of GYA added chitin ffom small mole criket diluted to get 101, 103, 105, and 107 conidia per ml. The result showed that higher percentage of larvae mortality occured at 24 & 48 hours after application was 76.7 % & 85 % respectively, from KBC isolate on suspension containing 107 conidia per ml. The three isolates with higher percentage of pupae mortality were JTM2 on suspension containing 105 conidia per ml, WC on suspension containing 107 conidia per ml and CCW3 containing 103 conidia per ml were 94.4 %, 83.3 % and 73.6 %, respectively. on suspension The three isolates with lower LT50 were KBC, S100, and PD2 were 17.1, 20.6, and 27.4 hours, respectively. Larvae infected by B. bassiana was mummy-like larval body and white fungus hypha appeared on larval body surface.
