Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of emotional regulation on self-criticism in adolescent victims of relational bullying. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a role of emotional regulation on self-criticism in adolescent victims of relational bullying. The population in this study were adolescent victims of relational bullying. The number of samples in this study was 213 adolescents aged 18-21 who had experienced behavior such as being spread gossip, told secrets, spread rumors about themselves, and being ostracized by others and 66 respondents for the trial (try out). Sampling in this study used a purposive sampling technique. This study uses a measuring instrument that refers to the emotional regulation aspect of Gross and Thompson (2007) with a reliability value of 0.894 and the self-criticism aspect of Gilbert (2004) with a reliability value of 0.949. Data analysis in this study uses a simple regression analysis technique. Based on the results of the simple regression analysis, the significance value is 0.000 (p <0.05) and the R Squared value is 0.483. This shows that emotional regulation has a significant role in self-criticism so that the hypothesis in this study can be accepted. The effective contribution of emotional regulation to self-criticism is 48.3%.
