Abstract

FGM is a practice carried out to remove certain parts of the external genitalia of women. This practice is seen as an act of violence and a violation of the rights of women and girls by highlighting the demands of tradition and then attracted the attention of Equality Now an NGO that focuses on protecting and advancing the human rights of women and girls. This study uses a Qualitative method with a focus on literature studies. This study analyzes the role of Equality Now in advocating for the practice of FGM in Sierra Leone in 2019-2022 through the concept of Non-Governmental Organization by examining the role of NGOs as Implementers by running programs in the form of webinar programs related to the role of stakeholders, holding journalist training programs and training for stakeholders to eliminate the practice of FGM, then Partnership by building advocacy partners with various actors, stakeholders, and other organizations, and Catalyst by lobbying advocacy by forming coalitions and holding meetings with stakeholders in encouraging policy-making to criminalize FGM
